The cost of a divorce can be as little as $249, and much more depending on how many assets you have. The divorce itself won't cost that much, in fact you could probably file the papers yourself if neither of you have any property to fight over. The cost also depends on whether or not you have any children that you would want to see once in awhile.
All of these things have to be taken into consideration when you are filing for a divorce. You will have your lawyer fees which depends on who you hire. The court costs and filing fees for the papers will have to be paid up front.
You can cut some of the cost by doing some of the work yourself. For instance, you can have everything ready when you go to see your lawyer because they charge by the hour. You will want to be in and out as fast as you can and have all of your issues resolved at the same time. Make sure that you have your bills and deeds and titles to any item that you may have purchased before you were married. You may not have to include it with the community property. The cost of child support has to be figured as well. If you don't include it in the settlement then it just might come back to bite you in the rear end. The divorce itself is not that expensive, it is the things that are included in the divorce that can add up.
