What is divorce? Immediately, many people think of marriage and its end. In several dictionary translations, the word means “to part, cease, complete detachment or break association with; to disassociate oneself.” Divorce is a legal and binding agreement between two people who have been married.
There are six different types of divorces: At-fault, no-fault, collaborative, mediated, summary and uncontested. Legal divorce laws differ from state to state and around the world. Due to this fact, two countries, the Philippians and Malta, in particular do not allow for divorces.
A marital divorce can be complicated or simple depending on the individuals involved. During a divorce, decisions about spousal support, custody of children, financial child support or the distribution of property are made. If the couple involved cannot come to an agreement, a judge or the court system can make the decisions for them.
Legal issues are not the only problems that develop with some divorces. Social structures change for everyone involved. Religious complications are frequent among certain faith-based marriages. In some cultures, divorce is not permitted because of these religious beliefs and backgrounds.
In some cases, marriages are considered invalid and an annulment is issued. Annulments are retroactive and render the marriage invalid. What could render a marriage null and void is entering the marriage with the knowledge that you will not be faithful, insanity, the murder of a spouse to remarry someone else, abduction and false pretenses.
